DESCRIPTION:Sex Positive People\n\nJoin us for a Potluck Social and informa
 l conversation. This event will be casual and a great opportunity to meet w
 ith others who are "sex positive".  For those of you who missed the showing
  of shortbus\, or liked it enough to see it again\, you are welcome to stay
  and watch the movie. \n\nBecause of the overwhelming interest\, following 
 the potluck\, we will be having an encore presentation of Shortbus.  \n\nAb
 out the film: Numerous New York City-dwellers come to the exclusive club Sh
 ortbus to work out problems in their sexual relationships. Rob (Raphael Bar
 ker) and Sophia (Sook-Yin Lee) are a happily married couple\, except for th
 e fact that she has never experienced sexual climax. This irony follows her
  to work\, because she is a couple's counselor who frequently has to deal w
 ith the sexual issues other couples have. Two of her patients are Jamie (PJ
  DeBoy) and James (Paul Dawson)\, a gay couple who have been monogamous for
  five years and counting. James wants to bring other men in to the relation
 ship\, and his own history with depression may hint at an ulterior motive. 
 Ceth (Pronounced like Seth\, played by Jay Brannon) may be the perfect addi
 tion to their family\, but Caleb\, a voyeur from across the street\, may ha
 ve his own ideas about that. Sophia visits Severin\, a dominatrix with secr
 ets of her own to reveal.  \n\n\nWhile sex is a main focal point in the fil
 m\, it is not the sole one. "Shortbus" deals with all manners of human rela
 tions. Not stressing one form over another\, it shows how sex\, friendship 
 and love continually intermingle. Because one's comfort level with their se
 xuality mirrors how one relates in all other relationships\, showing the ra
 w and carnal aspect of each character so explicitly works beautifully to ac
 curately convey their motivations and struggles.  \n\nIn a touching convers
 ation\, an old man identifying himself as the former mayor of New York says
  to the young and naive Ceth (Jay Brannan)\, "People come to New York to ge
 t laid ... People also come to New York to be forgiven." The latter can als
 o be said for those who elect to see this film. Whether dealing with sexual
  oppression\, struggling with sexual desires deemed socially deviant\, seek
 ing redemption for having already been there and done that\, or feeling gen
 erally unaccepted for being who you are\, the redemption value in this film
  is tenderly perceptible. "Shortbus" lets us know that gay\, straight\, bi\
 , transgender\, whatever... we all just want to feel accepted.  \n\nSo\, co
 me join us\, bring a tasty dish\, watch a movie and let' talk sex. Haven't
