Welcome, Chicago Consciousness Theorists!

This group will provide a respectful and open outlet for the discussion of consciousness.

Our experience of reality, and thus our understanding of consciousness, is shaped by the very monster we seek to understand! It is no surprise that tools ranging from MRI's to sensory deprivation, from neural modeling to meditation, and from ascetic practices to LSD, are used by diverse individuals to tap into what lies behind the curtain. Using the methods that we are drawn to, many of us want to understand our perceptions, dreams, decisions and the very fabric of the universe.

There is some inevitable tension between what can traditionally be considered "scientific" versus "spiritual" approaches. However, experienced practitioners from each path are equally capable of acting as a conduit of new wisdom, (and, yes, equally capable of making mistakes!) So, let us listen with both our intellect and our heart in a way that is opened-minded yet respectfully skeptical when merited.
